The LinkedIn Lens #2: LinkedIn Features Every Person Needs

Welcome to the LinkedIn Lens! In this monthly article, I explore important LinkedIn topics and insights to help enable your company team to thrive on the platform.

(Hey, I publish this on LinkedIn, too!)

From algorithm updates to content tips, here is an ongoing ‘open-mic’ stage for me to share with you everything that I know about LinkedIn. Ready to go?

Stay a while.

During the month of July, I’ve been trying to wrap my head around all these amazing new LinkedIn features. And the funny thing is — once you start testing a feature, it might disappear. (Remember LinkedIn stories?)

That is the nature of LinkedIn at the moment.

It’s fast. It’s new, and it’s always evolving. As a team, you want to keep updated on the trends and test out new features. But remember: there are three ingredients that will forever lean towards your LinkedIn success.

Profile optimization.

Quality content creation.

Community engagement.

Now, let’s dig into those LinkedIn features …

LinkedIn Creator Mode: Your Content Hub

By now, you might’ve heard about LinkedIn’s Creator Mode . It’s a profile setting that is optional for anyone interested; however, I generally recommend only turning on the setting if you (1) have over 1,000 followers, and (2) are posting content weekly.

These are four features within Creator Mode, that I’m loving!

  1. Enhanced analytics - Now, you can view the metrics for every post, within every post. Get direct post impressions, reactions, comments, and shares for each post that you publish. You can even have demographic insights, too! Using this data and reviewing your published content - will give you insights into what content resonates with your audience (and doesn’t).
  2. Profile hashtags - You have the option to add relevant topic hashtags to your profile under this mode. This is a great way - to position yourself as an expert on specific topics. And the rumor is that LinkedIn might soon ‘hyperlink’ these hashtags making it easier for people to organize content by topics.
  3. Video introduction - Video is still an amazing way to uniquely engage with your audience. The video can only be up to 30 seconds on your profile!
  4. CTA link - A newer feature that I’m loving … now use the top of your profile’s front page real estate to direct people towards a specific website link. It’s a great place for a strong call to action.

These are only a few of the features that are offered in LinkedIn’s Creator Mode, but I consider them the top ones. They will truly help your profile to stand out in quality, appearance, and approachability.

Recent LinkedIn platform updates

Here’s a round-up of the recent changes to the LinkedIn algorithm.

Busting the LinkedIn algorithm series

I repeat: Social media algorithms are not a mythical god.

Social media is a tool that we use to get our message across, but knowing what works and doesn’t work, is freakin’ useful, right?

In July, I continued to publish several videos on TikTok (yes, I’m there, too!) - about the LinkedIn algorithm. These were short and digestible tips on how to bust the LinkedIn algorithm and make your content thrive on the platform.

Here’s a round-up of those recent videos.

If you’re a TikToker, make sure to ‘follow’ my account !

In upcoming editions, we will reflect more on the algorithm and offer actionable tips on how to make the best of it.

Until then … keep going and keep up the good work.
